This is the latest update to legislation regarding geothermal heating and cooling systems and technology.
In January, 2013, new legislation related to geothermal heating and cooling installations was proposed in the New York State Senate and Assembly.
The proposed legislation is to amend the tax law to exempt both sellers and purchasers of geothermal systems from sales and use taxes for materials. (Sales and use taxes for the labor involved in capital improvements, such as these installations, are already exempt.).
This legislation was referred to the Assembly Ways & Means Committee in January and to the Senate Finance Committee in April. Each committee has to approve this bill before it can come to a full vote in their respective houses.
Please copy and paste the text below onto your business letterhead, and send to Senator Maziarz and Assembly Member Jaffee.
By doing this, your letter will be attached to the bills and become a part of the record when these bills pass on into law. The more support that Sen. Maziarz and A.M. Jaffee have for these bills the more likely we can get this passed ASAP so your support is ESSENTIAL!
Memo in Support of S.1343 and A.1411
The Honorable George Maziarz
The Honorable Ellen Jaffee
Mr. Maziarz and Ms. Jaffee:
The Long Island Geothermal Energy Organization (LI-GEO, www.LI-GEO.org) is a nonprofit association specifically tasked with supporting and promoting the use of energy efficient ground-source heat pumps (GHP) to heat and cool residences and buildings on Long Island.
As a member of LI-GEO, I am writing to you today in support of Senate Bill # S01343 and Assembly Bill # A01411. These bills exempt sales and use taxation on the materials utilized in the installation of these geothermal HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems for the heating and cooling of structures within both the Long Island region as well as the entire State of New York and this measure will help to support this very important industry in New York.
